IPL 2018: IPL display opens English County doors for KXIP's Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Young Afghanistan spin sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman is all set to take the County Cricket by storm after becoming an international sensation across the globe, as he has signed up by the Hampshire County Cricket Club for the upcoming T20 Blast on Thursday (17 May).

Rahman, who is the youngest cricketer to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) when has was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the 2018 IPL auction, hogged the headlines after his stunning role in Afghanistan’s historic victory in the Under-19 Asia Cup in 2017, and the U19 World Cup 2017.

The spinner, who is also the youngest player to take a five-wicket haul in a One Day International match in just 16 years and 325 days as well as, the first cricketer to play internationals who was born in the 21st century, is known for his mixing of off-breaks, leg-spin, and googlies bowling.

So far in the IPL 2018, the youngster has taken 14 wickets in 11 games for Kings XI Punjab, and has been continually dominating headlines for his outstanding display in the T20 event.

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White told BBC Radio Solent, "Mujeeb has sort of burst onto the scene over the last six months. He's been one of the finds of the IPL, so he comes in great form. I think he's one of the leading bowlers in the IPL and he brings something completely different. Not a lot of guys will have faced him.”

Meanwhile, Mujeeb, who has the ability to bamboozle the best in business with his variations, is expressed his delight over making his English County debut with Hampshire, and also looking forward to his latest challenge in England.  

The mystery spinner further stated, “It is a great honour for me to play domestic cricket in England and I am very much looking forward to this latest challenge in my career so far. I hope I can help Hampshire be successful during my time with the team this year.”

Besides Afghanistan sensation, Hampshire has also signed New Zealand all-rounder Colin Munro for the T20 Blast, and he will be available for the entire tournament.
