Kings XI Punjab suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in Indore on Monday (May 14).

After being put into bat by RCB skipper Virat Kohli, KXIP got a decent start courtesy KL Rahul and Chris Gayle’s 36-run opening stand in just 4.3 overs. However, they were literally dismantled thereafter. 

As soon as Umesh Yadav removed both the KXIP openers, the remaining batting line-up fell like a pack of cards. The collapse was such that Punjab lost their remaining 8 wickets for just 52 runs and was bundled out for only 88 in 15.1 overs. Aaron Finch was the top-scorer for KXIP with 26 runs off 23 balls.

Seeing the way entire KXIP batting line-up capitulated, South Africa’s ace speedster Dale Steyn took to Twitter and questioned the decision of Punjab think-tank to not play David Miller.

“So why isn’t Miller getting a game? #justaskingforafriend” Steyn wrote in the first half of his tweet.

The Proteas pace legend further went on to give a reason as why Miller holds the key in Punjab's fragile batting line-up.

“I mean, Leg spinner to a left hander. Middle overs, Miller is taking that on. But I guess at this level everyone should be able to play leggies...” Steyn further added.

It is worth mentioning here that the Punjab-based franchise had retained Miller for 3 crores by using the RTM card. In the ongoing Indian Premier League, the southpaw has played only 2 out of the 12 matches for KXIP.

Interestingly, Miller has got both the opportunities against the Delhi Daredevils in which he has registered the scores of 24* and 26 respectively.

After the last night’s loss against RCB, the Ravichandran Ashwin led KXIP side are in a spot of bother concerning the playoff spot. They are currently placed at the fifth position on the points table, having won 6 of their 12 affairs.
