Chennai Super Kings are hosting the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first match of Super Sunday (May 13) at the MCA Stadium, Pune.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and invited SRH to bat first. The table-toppers didn’t experience the best of starts as Deepak Chahar removed Alex Hales in the 4th over for 2.
However, Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson carried on from where they had left against the Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday (May 10). The duo added a 123-run stand for the second wicket to put SRH in a commanding position.
It was Dhawan and Williamson’s second 100+ partnership in the span of four days. They had forged an unbeaten 176-run partnership against Delhi Daredevils on Thursday to seal a 9-wicket victory for SRH.
Unfortunately for SRH, they lost Dhawan (79 runs off 49 balls) and Williamson (51 runs off 39 balls) in quick succession and consequently lost the momentum. Shardul Thakur was the bowler to pull things back for CSK as he claimed 2 wickets by conceding 32 runs in his 4 overs.
Cameo at the fag end of the innings from Deepak Hooda (21 runs off 11 balls) eventually propelled SRH to a highly competitive total of 179/4 in 20 overs.
Twitterati were impressed to see yet another batting clinic put on by the experienced campaigners of SRH batting line-up.
Here are some of the top tweets lauding Dhawan and Williamson’s stellar show with the bat:
Fantastic partnership btwn Dhawan and Williamson, breaking stranglehold, taking game away from CSK.SRH look good for 170 now, tough to chase

Very good recovery from @SunRisers after a very modest power play. Best team in the competition. @ChennaiIPL will have to be at their best against the best bowling team. @msdhoni Rayudu Watson and @ImRaina three need to fire.

Clearly #SRH have assessed that they need 175-180 and were way behind at the 9 over mark when they were on 51.

I know there’s no place for ifs and buts in sport - but honestly thought Shikhar looked out LBW when he was on 5. Surprised #MSD didn’t ask for a review. Thought Watson too believed it was out. Anyways! #CSKvsSRH #IPL2018

Champions are defined not by their best days but by the days when they are not at their best , @SunRisers have pulled themselves out time and again in this #IPL2018 #CSKvSRH
