AB de Villiers put on a show on Saturday (May 12) night to help Royal Challengers Bangalore register their fourth win in the ongoing Indian Premier League. De Villiers scored a blistering 37-ball 72* (4 fours and 6 sixes) to saw RCB home with five wickets in hand and an over to spare.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony where he was awarded with the Man-of-the-Match, AB said: "I started off slowly, luckily Virat was going well at the other end. Started feeling much better after 10-15 balls."

After being put into bat, Delhi had amassed 181/4 in their 20 overs. Rishabh Pant (61 runs off 34 balls) and the debutant Abhishek Sharma (46* off 19 balls) were the major contributors for DD.

In reply, RCB were reduced to 18/2 in the third over before Kohli-De Villiers masterclass rescued them out of the deep hole. The duo played quite a few jaw-dropping strokes to enthrall the capacity Kotal crowd.

It was De Villiers’ first substantial knock since his return from illness. After the departure of Virat (70 runs off 40 balls) in the 14th over, AB shouldered the responsibility to guide his team home.

Ecstatic with his performance, the Proteas batting maverick further went on to say that playing for RCB motivates him to the core.

"It's admirable to see youngsters come here and perform well, very happy to be a part of a tournament like this," de Villiers asserted.

“We play for a proud franchise, the management and my team-mates and that is what motivates me," he concluded.

With this win over Delhi, RCB are still pretty much alive for the playoffs berth. The Bangalore-based franchise will now play their next game against the Kings XI Punjab in Indore on Monday (May 14).
