Kings XI Punjab are hosting the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 44th match of IPL 2018 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Saturday (May 12).
Having put an appalling batting show against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday (May 9), KKR batsmen improved their game by many folds to score a mammoth 245/6 in 20 overs against KXIP.
Punjab skipper Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and invited Kolkata to bat first. KKR got off to a flier with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine adding 53 runs for the opening wicket in just 5.2 overs. After Lynn’s dismissal on 27, Narine carried on the carnage along with Robin Uthappa.
Narine (75 runs off 36 balls) and Uthappa (24 runs off 17 balls) forged a swashbuckling 75-run partnership in just 6 overs before Andrew Tye removed the duo in the span of three deliveries.
Andre Russell was promoted at No. 4 following the dismissal of Uthappa and the gigantic Caribbean all-rounder alongside his skipper Dinesh Karthik carried out a second assault for the day. The duo of Russell and Karthik added a 76-run stand in just 31 balls before Tye got his fourth scalp by removing the former on 31.
In the last three overs, Karthik dented the Punjab bowlers even further. The KKR skipper was dismissed by Barinder Sran in the final over for a breathtaking 23-ball 50. It was Shubman Gill’s 8-ball 16 at the fag end of the inning that eventually helped KKR set a massive target of 246 for KXIP.
Twitterati were in awe to see the way KKR batsmen made a comeback after a disastrous performance against Mumbai three days ago.
Here are some of the top tweets hailing KKR’s stellar show with the bat:
What insane hitting Indore is witnessing today....Pitch is good but not as flat as the #KKR batsmen have made it look. Highest IPL 2018 score on the cards. #KXIPvKKR #IPL

This match will be 6-hitting slugfest methinks. Punjab have big ticket power hitters too.Bowlers marginalised by dud pitch, small outfield.

Already, will need something special from #KingsXIPunjab to come back into this game. Have to keep #KKR under 210 to hope to chase it down
