Shikhar Dhawan put on a show on Thursday (May 10) night to seal the playoffs berth for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Dhawan scored a blistering 50-ball 92* that helped SRH beat Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
Chasing the highly stiff target of 188, Dhawan along with his captain Kane Williamson (83* runs off 53 balls) put on an unbeaten 176-run stand to saw SRH home with seven balls to spare.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony after receiving the Man-of-the-Match award, Dhawan said: "I am glad that I scored 92 runs and I am looking forward to score more runs."
"There was no chat between us (himself and Williamson), we were doing our job. Kane has been playing brilliantly throughout this season and I was just in the flow, had to go for it," he added.
Dhawan, who struck 9 glorious boundaries and 4 huge sixes in his unbeaten knock, was also at his cheeky best and when asked about his scintillating batting.
"The Gabbar was always there. That's my class," the 32-year-old amusingly stated.
Dhawan was in full of praise for the young Rishabh Pant, who dazzled the jam-packed Kotla crowd with his sparkling 128* off 63 balls (15 fours and 7 sixes).
"Rishabh played an amazing knock, he took the game away from us. But we believed that we'll go in with a positive mind-set,” Dhawan concluded.
With this thumping win over the Delhi Daredevils, SRH became the first team to officially qualify for the playoffs. The Kane Williamson led side have won 9 of their 11 matches and are comprehensively placed at the top of the points table.
