Young Jharkhand lad Ishan Kishan did a magic on Wednesday (9 May) for the Mumbai Indians (MI), hitting a magnificent half-century to guide the MI to a massive 102-run win in an IPL 2018 match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.

The 19-year-old left-hander came to bat at No.4 and played a stunning knock of 62 off 21 balls laced with 5 fours and 6 sixes to help Mumbai to post a mammoth total of 210/6 against the KKR.

Meanwhile, being a wicket-keeper, Ishan often gets compared with Indian great MS Dhoni, who is leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2018, for his keeping skills and batting, and even his Kolkata’s breathtaking match-winning knock gives a glimpse of Dhoni a bit.

However, the MI star also admitted that Dhoni’s tips really helps him a lot, as well as, Captain Rohit Sharma’s backing boosts his confidence that reflects in his innings this season.

As per reports in Telegraph India, Ishan told reporters at the post-match conference, “It obviously helps when I get tips from Dhoni Bhai... He is a legend and he helps me a lot. He keeps telling me to take my time and read the situation while at the crease. Even Rohit Bhai... They always ask me to back myself... All that definitely helps.”

He also thanked the MI management for showing faith in him, adding, “It is always good for a youngster when the team management and the captain backs him. Also, it helps if you are batting up the order. But I will say that I'm comfortable batting anywhere as per the team's needs.”

On being asked about his terrific innings against the KKR, he replied, “The plan was to back myself and go for my shots if there was an opportunity. That is what the coach told me. Even the captain said that he had faith in my big-hitting capabilities. I only had to watch the ball till the very end and I did that.”

Mumbai will take on the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next IPL 2018 match at Wankhede Stadium on 13 May (Sunday) with the aim to take a step forward towards the playoff berth.
