Mumbai Indians won the match by 102 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Ishan Kishan was awarded the Man of the Match for his exceptional, stormy innings of 62 that took the visitors to a mammoth total. Team Circle of Cricket gets down to list the 5 talking points of the match.

Sedate start by the MI openers

Surya Kumar Yadav and Even Lewis had a very steady and calm start to the innings. Both the openers played nicely in the early overs, timing well the deliveries, they started off to take the aerial route. Surya Kumar Yadav like every time was playing his natural game with moving the scoreboard up. They added 46 runs for the first wicket partnership.

Piyush Chawla had a lucky start as he picked up both MI openers with the rank long hops. Piyush sent both the MI openers back in the dugout with his leg spin coming in way to stop Mumbai.

Ishan Kishan was the hero of the match. Ishan Kishan's firing knock totally outplayed Kolkata Knight Riders, he scored 62 runs off 21 deliveries. Due to his expectational knock only, MI managed to score 210 runs on the board. He registered his half-century in just 17 balls. It was really wonderful to watch a young player batting and heavily challenging all the bowlers.

In the last 8 overs of Mumbai Indians batting, they could manage to get 113 runs which is something remarkable for their side. If they keep on performing and batting like this then no one can ever stop them to qualify for the playoffs.

Questionable captaincy by Dinesh Karthik

It was a doubtful captaincy by Dinesh Karthik as the skipper of the team handed Piyush Chawla to bowl the last over of the first innings, in context to which the leg-spinner conceded 22 runs. It was actually Ben Cutting who had Piyush Chawla's last over fully slaughtered with heavy sixes.

Earlier in the match as well, the other leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav went for 25 runs in his overs, Ishan Kishan hitting four sixes in that over. Talking about KKR's bowling performance in tonight's match it was one of their worst renderings in IPL 2018.

KKR lost the plot in the powerplay overs chasing 211

Kolkata needed to score 211 to win the match. They wanted their explosive openers, Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine to fire from the first ball but in contrast to that, they fell in quick succession giving Mumbai Indians an edge over them. The host was reduced to 51/3 within 7 overs and had a massive target to chase on their head.

The asking rate kept on increasing where the host was in a huge pit hole with lots of trouble, the bowlers from Mumbai kept on digging the hole until it was too late for the Kolkata Knight Riders. This was the 18th time in Indian Premier League that Mumbai was landing on the right path against the Knight Riders.

Mumbai Indians return home to Wankhede, where they host Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab in back-to-back games. KKR travel to Indore next, for their return fixture against Kings XI Punjab on May 12.
