The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 saw the clash of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) host Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 41st match of the tournament.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and decided to field first. KKR made two changes to their team bringing in Rinku Singh and Tom Curran; whereas MI went in unchanged. MI had to win the game to stay alive and they did just that.

Suryakumar Yadav (36 in 32 balls) added 46 runs inside first 6 overs with Evin Lewis. But both fell to Chawla and then came captain Rohit Sharma (36 in 31 balls) and the true hero of MI innings, Ishan Kishan (62 off 21 balls; 5x4s, 6x6s), who scored his fifty off just 17 balls and hit Kuldeep Yadav for four consecutive sixes in an over.

The duo added 82 runs for the 3rd wicket. Then contributions from Hardik Pandya (19) and Ben Cutting (24 off 9 balls with 3 sixes and 1 four) took MI to 210/6 in 20 overs. KKR’s best bowler was Piyush Chawla, who picked 3/48 in his 4 overs.

KKR needed someone to play a sparkling inning and that someone never came. Narine (4), Chris Lynn (21), Robin Uthappa (14) and Nitish Rana (21) all tried their best, but the required run rate proved to be the bane of their chase and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and found themselves 67/6 in the 10th over.

In the end, KKR could only attempt to lessen the damage but still lost the match by 102 runs.

With this win, Mumbai Indians came on par with Kolkata Knight Riders on points. This gives them a very good chance of qualifying for the top four finish, while KKR will rue the big loss, as it dented their net run rate quite a lot.

MI 210/6 (I KISHAN 62; P CHAWLA 3/48) defeated KKR 108 (C LYNN 21; K PANDYA 2/12)
