The first match of Super Sunday (May 6) saw Mumbai Indians locking horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Facing the uphill task of winning all the matches from now on, MI batsmen put on the exhibition to score 181/4 in 20 overs.

After being put into bat by KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik, Mumbai got off to a flier with Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav putting a 91-run opening stand in just 9 overs. Following the dismissal of Lewis on 43, MI captain Rohit Sharma promoted himself up the order but he couldn’t make it count as Sunil Narine removed him for just 11.

Suryakumar though carried on his good run of form and recorded his fourth fifty (59 runs off 39 balls) of IPL 2018. Subsequent to Yadav’s dismissal, the Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal) forged a rapid 24-run partnership to propel Mumbai over 150.

Thanks to the blitz in the last couple of overs from Hardik (35 runs off 20 balls) and Duminy (13 runs off 11 balls), MI eventually set a stiff target of 182 runs for the KKR.

Andre Russell and Sunil Narine were the stand-out bowlers for KKR. While Russell claimed 2 wickets by conceding 12 runs in his 2 runs, Narine picked up the same by giving away 35 runs in his 4 overs.
