Ever since Kolkata Knight Riders let go off Gautam Gambhir, their most successful captain under whom they won two IPL titles, and appointed Dinesh Karthik their captain, there's a feeling of this being the start of the new era for the franchise.

They purchased a very young squad at the auction, filled with U-19 players like Shubman Gill, Shivam Mavi, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti and good Ranji Trophy performers like Nitish Rana. You could see KKR are looking at the future and giving these youngsters the experience of Dinesh Karthik, Robin Uthappa, Sunil Narine and Andrew Russell to play their cricket around with freedom.

Robin Uthappa, one of the stalwarts of the franchise, has echoed the same sentiment by stating that, "I think we have got a side that can hold strong core for the next 5-7 years easily, So for me, I think that is commendable to have that kind of side. It's commendable to have decision maker to have such setup,"

"I started playing the IPL to where it is today. It has changed tremendously. We are at that stage where everything is growing and is learning to walk, and is just beginning to take strides and running. So I think, we are only going to see what it's going to be like in next five or 10 years, which will dictate what it's going to be in the next century,"

Uthappa used to be the wicketkeeper for the side and a place which is now taken up by the captain himself. Talking about this he said, "I am loving it. I absolutely love fielding. It's a lot of fun. You are involved in the game so much more. You are running. You are trying to help out the bowler as much as you can, with every ball, you are in the game. It's not like you are not when you are keeping. But you know, you are always on the move, which I enjoy completely."
