With Board of Control of Cricket in India(BCCI) and Committee of Administrators(COA) in a well-known quest to prioritize the full tour of England for the Indian team this summer, some of the key test players are highly likely to miss the historic Test match against Afghanistan.

The players that are playing and have signed to play the county championship in England, as well as the some of the regular Test cricketers, will be featuring in the India A side that will also tour. And so, they will not be taking any part in Afghanistan's maiden Test match.

Instead, a second-string of players, made from the India A setup and Ranji Trophy performers, will play the occasion.

A board official was quoted saying that, “Test specialists are set to travel to UK for early acclimatization. Everyone has hailed it as good planning on part of the CoA. Isn't it more important for India to prepare for the Test in England than fielding the maximum firepower against Afghanistan?”

“There is clear understanding that those playing in the County Championship should stay back in England, while another batch of three to four regular Test cricketers could go with India A team under Rahul Dravid to get used to the conditions there. The focus is on ensuring that all the regular Test batsmen get good practice in England before the Test series begins,”
