Royal Challengers Bangalore fans finally had something to cheer about as Virat Kohli and company beat Mumbai Indians by 14 runs at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (May 1) night.

However, the match was marred by a bit of controversy with RCB skipper Virat Kohli being given not out despite edging the ball to Ishan Kishan off Bumrah.

The incident occurred during the 14th over of RCB’s innings when MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a short of length delivery on the outside off channel which Kohli nicked it to wicketkeeper Kishan.

Interestingly, no one from the MI camp appealed for the caught behind and therefore the on-field umpire Nitin Menon didn’t interfere. Later on, the ultraedge showed a big spike when the ball went past Kohli’s willow.

After the end of RCB’s innings, when Bumrah was asked about the incident, he said: “I got to hear from dug-out that he (Virat Kohli) was out and I heard that it was an edge. I didn’t hear the edge, even the wicketkeeper didn’t hear it. But that’s ok. In the next over Hardik (Pandya) got his wicket so I am really happy.”

The decision didn’t really hurt the defending champions as Kohli was dismissed by Hardik Pandya three overs later. Virat scored 32 runs off 26 balls whereas RCB set a rather competitive target of 168 for the Mumbai Indians.
