Delhi Daredevils traveled to MCA Stadium in Pune to face Chennai Super Kings in the 30th match of the IPL 2018.

DD captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first. Delhi went in unchanged, while CSK decided to make four changes. In came Du Plessis, Karn Sharma, KM Asif and Lungi Ngidi. Watson and Du Plessis opened the innings and the duo added 102 runs in 11 overs before Du Plessis got out for 33 off 33 balls.

Watson scored 78 in 40 balls with 7 sixes and 4 fours, before Amit Mishra got his wicket. Raina was bowled by Maxwell for 1 and CSK looked in trouble. DD might have thought that they had CSK below 200 when that happened.

But then Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni demolished DD bowling, adding 79 runs in just 6 overs. Trent Boult went for 21 runs in an over, as Dhoni hit him for two sixes and one four. He finished up with figures of 0/48 in 4 overs and England’s Liam Plunkett gave 52 runs in 3 overs.

Rishabh Pant slammed a brilliant 79 for DD

Rayudu was dismissed for 41 in 24 with 5 fours and 1 six, but MS Dhoni (51* in 22 balls; 2x4s, 5x6s) took CSK to 211/4 in 20 overs. Mishra took 1/30, Shankar took 1/22 and Maxwell took 1/5 for DD.

Delhi lost Shaw early for 9, but Colin Munro hit 26 off 16. But debutant KM Asif removed both DD openers and Iyer ran himself out for 13. However, DD scored 59/2 in their power play.

However, CSK kept the pressure on, as Maxwell was castled by Jadeja for 6 and then Shankar struggled to hit the big shots. Pant, however, kept hitting big shots in between, but the required run rate became too much.

Their only hope of getting 50 odd runs in last 3 overs, Rishabh Pant, was dismissed by Ngidi, caught by Jadeja for a brilliant 79 off 45 balls with 4 sixes and 7 fours.

Shankar hit some lusty shots in his innings of 54* off 31 balls with 5 sixes and 1 four, including 3 sixes off 3 balls off Bravo in the 19th over of the match.

But it was CSK bowlers, who prevailed thanks to a big total to defend and CSK batsmen, who put that total on the board.

With this win, CSK solidified their position at the top of the table with 6 wins from 8 matches.
