The Indian Premier League (IPL) is widely deemed as the ultimate event where talent meets opportunity. While the rookie cricketers get the chance to exhibit their skills in front of thousands, the experienced ones see it as a platform to make a comeback to the national side.

Ahead of the IPL 2018, all eyes were on veteran India batsman Yuvraj Singh, who hasn’t represented the national team since June 2017. However, things didn’t pan out according to the plan for Yuvraj as he managed to amass only 50 runs in 4 innings before being dropped from Kings XI Punjab’s playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday (April 26).

Bengal batsman Manoj Tiwary, who was warming the bench all along, was drafted into the XI in place of Yuvraj. As expected, the decision has created a lot of hue and cry among the fans and within media outlets.

In the media conference when KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was asked about the reason for Yuvi’s exclusion, he lost his cool and said: “What..What update? I have told clearly that he has been replaced by Manoj Tiwary.”

During the IPL 2018 auction in January, Yuvraj was bought at a base price of INR 2 crores by the KXIP franchise. The southpaw may have faced a downfall in recent times, but it is too early to write him off. In 126 IPL matches he has played, Yuvraj has scored 2637 runs at a strike rate of 130.03.

On the other hand, KXIP as a team is doing reasonably well in IPL 2018. The Ravichandran Ashwin led side have won 5 out of 7 matches thus far with the likes of Chris Gayle, KL Rahul, Ankit Rajpoot and Mujeeb Zadran being the stand out performers.
