IPL 2018: 5 players who could be on the wish list of franchises during the mid season transfer window

For the first time, IPL will see transfers of players in middle of an ongoing tournament.

IPL will see a mid season transfer window for the first time

IPL 2018 has seen the completion of 23 matches so far and we have seen the majority of matches ended up in nail-biting fashion. Matches have gone into the last over with some wonderful performances from players from all the teams.

However, some players are still waiting in the wings for their chance in the middle and with the new advent of mid-season transfers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, there are chances that some teams might want to release some players that may not have chance to play; while some teams wanting players that might add value to their team.

Let’s have a look at five best options who will be on wish-list of franchises during the mid-season transfer window

GURKEERAT SINGH MANN (DD)

Gurkeerat Singh Mann was bought by Delhi Daredevils for INR 75 lakhs during the IPL 2018 auction. Mann who is an excellent middle order batsman having a variety of shots to excel in the non power-play overs from 6-14 overs of the innings.

Mann can also roll his arm over for some economical overs when needed and also keeps wickets. He came off a good List A form for Punjab and Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League games for Gazi Group. Teams with a weak middle order like Mumbai Indians or even RCB can benefit from Gurkeerat’s abilities.

MOEEN ALI (RCB)

Moeen Ali has been warming the RCB bench since the start of the IPL 2018, waiting for his turn to come. RCB have tried various team combinations but have not found results going in their favor so far. However, Moeen Ali has been ignored despite having expertise at the top of the order as well.

Ali would be very helpful for other teams looking for a spinning all-rounder, someone who can open as well. Ali will be more useful for teams like Rajasthan Royals or Delhi Daredevils who are looking for a renaissance.

ALEX HALES (SRH)

Alex Hales was brought in as a replacement for David Warner in SRH. However, he has been warming the bench since Kane Williamson is opening with Shikhar Dhawan for Sunrisers, and there is extremely low chance that SRH will tinker with the winning combination.

Hales should be better off for a team like Rajasthan Royals who are struggling with their opening combination. Hales is a very good T20 opener and his record speaks for itself and he will be amongst the most wanted players in the mid-season transfer window.

MANOJ TIWARY (KXIP)

Manoj Tiwary had a brilliant IPL 2017 for the Rising Pune Supergiant, as he played an important role in them reaching the finals of the tournament. With the team being defunct, Manoj Tiwary was bought by Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018 auction.

Tiwary would have hoped for a bigger role in the KXIP batting lineup, but thanks to the presence of KL Rahul, Karun Nair, and other batsmen, Tiwary has found himself warming the bench, instead of playing in the middle. It also looks like there is little chance of Tiwary getting a game in the packed batting order and due to the team winning consistently with that combination.

Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils, and other teams will benefit from Manoj Tiwary’s presence in their lineups and play in the middle. A wonderful all-around player, who also is a partnership breaker with the ball and a brilliant cricketing brain, Tiwary will be an asset to any team who goes for him in the mid-season transfer window.

JP DUMINY (MI)

JP Duminy has been part of DD on the bench waiting for a chance, while his team is imploding in the IPL 2018. DD has lost five games out of six games and this caused their captain Gautam Gambhir to step down from the helm.

Duminy has been a very good player in IPL previously for teams like Mumbai Indians and SRH apart from now defunct Deccan Chargers. Duminy still possesses a very good limited overs game and has done the same for South Africa. Having him in middle order will be a big asset for any team, as he not only bats but is a handy bowler and also is a leader amongst the team members.
