Gautam Gambhir has decided to step down as skipper of Delhi Daredevils (DD). His addition to the team as a captain hasn't made any difference till now. Gambhir couldn't change the fate of the franchise who last qualified for playoffs in 2012.

In this Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi has won only one game and suffered 5 losses. Delhi lies at the bottom of the points table, even lower than MI, thanks to a poor net run rate.

Gambhir took Twitter to clarify that he himself has taken the decision to quit captaincy and not by management. The southpaw didn't want to disappoint the fans and that is why he promised to the last man standing for the Delhi franchise.

"True, that I’ve stepped down from DD captaincy. Just to clarify it was my call, nothing from the management or coaching staff. I may not be leading from the front but I will be the last man standing for @DelhiDaredevils. No individual bigger than d team. Very much a #DilDIlli," he wrote.

Delhi Daredevils will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders. The newly appointed skipper in Gambhir's replacement, Shreyas Iyer will lead the side.
