Delhi Daredevils did not have a very good start to their IPL 2018 campaign. They are currently at the bottom of the points table with 5 losses from 6 matches.

As a result of team's dismal performances, Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir has decided to step down from his position as the leader of the team.

He has also been in poor form personally, scoring 85 runs from five innings. Gambhir recommended 23-year-old Shreyas Iyer as the new leader of the team.

It was my decision. I haven't contributed enough to the team. I had to take the responsibility being the leader of the ship. I feel it was the right time,” Gautam Gambhir was quoted by ANI.

Gautam Gambhir was bought by Delhi Daredevils after spending 7 years with Kolkata Knight Riders, even winning two IPL trophies with KKR.

DD seemed to bring some of that luck in their camp and Gambhir rejoined his home team. He had a good start with a fifty in their first game, but since then, his batting has failed to keep up with the rigors of modern day fast bowling.

Delhi lost their last match against Kings XI Punjab after failing to chase down 143 at their home of Feroz Shah Kotla.
