Indian Premier League saw Mumbai Indians hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad in the return match between the two teams. Today (April 24) also happened to be MI mentor Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday and MI was looking to gift the little master a win.

MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first, as most of the teams have done this IPL 11. MI went in unchanged and SRH had to make some forced changes as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Billy Stanlake were out injured, with Stanlake leaving the IPL 11. They brought in Mohd Nabi, Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi got his SRH debut and Dhawan came back too.

MI began with pressuring the incoming Dhawan, who also injured his knee in the process and then McClenaghan bowled him for 5. McClenaghan then sent back Saha for a duck. Williamson (29) and Manish Pandey tried to rebuild the innings, but Pandey got out for 16. Shakib was run out for 2 and then Williamson went back, caught behind off Hardik Pandya.

After this, it was a procession of wickets, with Yusuf standing alone amidst the rubbles, making 29 runs and was the last man to get out, as SRH crumbled for 118.

The pick of MI bowlers was Mayank Markande, who picked 2/15 and Mitchell McClenaghan, who gave SRH early shocks and picked 2/22.

However, Kane Williamson and SRH team didn’t lose hope and despite dew at the Wankhede, SRH bowlers wrecked havoc on the MI batting. Suryakumar Yadav scored 34 and Krunal Pandya scored 24, meanwhile, the rest of the MI batting fell for single-digit scores. Lewis (5). Kishan (0), Rohit (2), and Pollard (4) disappointed the Mumbai Indians’ fans at home.

Much of the destruction can be attributed to the change of the wet ball, which was bloated due to dew. Since the new, dry ball was given to the SRH bowlers, they completely changed the match. Rashid Khan who had gone for many runs in his last two matches showed his caliber with 2/11 in 4 overs.

Hardik Pandya, in the end, got frustrated after playing a maiden over from Rashid and gave a catch to Thampi off Kaul, who bowled extremely well.

It was a great effort from Sunrisers who were missing Bhuvneshwar for the match and Stanlake, who has gone back home.

Sunrisers defeated MI by 31 runs in a miraculous performance at the Wankhede stadium. MI will rue their batting in this match, and the chance to kickstart their defense, despite 4 losses in 5 matches.
