This was a game which started with the celebrations of Sachin Tendulkar's 45th birthday. It was a perfect opportunity for Mumbai Indians to win the game and give a perfect gift to their icon on this auspicious day.
Halfway through the match, the script looked perfect for a Mumbai win as they bundled the Sunrisers out for just 118 runs with their bowlers coming to the party on a wicket which behaved differently from normal at the Wankhede.
But the real twist was yet to come. Chasing 119 to win, Mumbai got off to a worst possible and unexpected start. Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals right from the start as the Sunrisers bowlers brought their team into the game from nowhere. Suryakumar Yadav who scored 34 from 38 balls looked good to take his team over the line. However, he got out in a rather unforunate way hitting the ball straight to the deep square leg fielder which opened the floodgates for the Hyderabad bowlers. The MI score read 77 when he was dismissed. Mumbai lost their next 4 wickets in a dramatic collapse as it was a rare sight both for the fans and the commentators who were watching the match.
This defeat slides Mumbai further down the bottom. This now is their fifth defeat in six matches as a top four qualification looks difficult for the defending champions now. Mumbai at the end lost this low scoring encounter by a margin of 31 runs.
Twitterverse who watched the match was in disbelief of the end result and thus expressed their surprise on the micro-blogging site. Here are the best tweets related to the contest.
A team that has Hardik Pandya at 7 is struggling to score 118 at the Wankhede....who would’ve thought ???? #MIvSRH #IPL

You make 118, don't bat out 20 overs and win by 31. Even they wouldn't have thought this margin was possible. #SunrisersHyderabad. Performance of #IPL2018

Easily Sunrisers's toughest, most significant win this season yet. Terrific bowling, fielding, superb captaincy in defending a paltry 118

Such a great day for bowlers today! Defending a score of 120 needs some effort. Great temperament shown by @SunRisers bowlers! #MIvsSRH #IPL2018

Contrary to laws of nature, the sun has risen in the west .. Wow @SunRisers - some comeback that! This one would hurt MI .. #MIvSRH

A win like this boosts the morale and confidence of a team much more than a high scoring encounter, well done @SunRisers ????????????????????#MIvsSRH #IPL2018 #BadriBytes

“Victory comes from finding opportunities in problems “. Extremely proud of the #OrangeArmy for their stellar performance in defending 118. Kane led brilliantly and all the bowlers executed their plan to perfection. Super proud #MIvSRH

Outstanding defence from the @SunRisers . Without Bhuvi, defending 118 against a MI line up with superstars is an exceptional effort. Am very impressed with Sid Kaul who has been so consistent in the death overs. For Mumbai, it looks difficult to comeback after this #MIvSRH
