IPL 2018: Gautam Gambhir criticizes DD batsmen for not chasing 144 against KXIP

KXIP, who were playing without Chris Gayle, put up 143 on board against DD.

Delhi Daredevils failed to profit from their home match at Feroz Shah Kotla against Kings XI Punjab, as DD lost the game by 4 runs.

Needing 144 runs to win, DD capsized despite a brilliant fifty from Shreyas Iyer. A Chris Gayle-less KXIP was stopped to 143 thanks to some good bowling from DD debutant Liam Plunkett.

However, DD captain Gautam Gambhir was not happy with the efforts of his batsmen and said, "I thought in the first six overs when you lose three wickets, you let the opposition back in the game. We did score runs but also lost too many wickets. Our bowlers did really well to restrict them but we lost too many wickets in the first six and it's always difficult when that happens."

"He (Shaw) was brilliant and also Avesh did really well. Shaw is someone who is also for the future," said the Delhi captain.

Gambhir was optimistic about DD’s chances and said, "Still 8 more games to go and we can catch up. We got to win seven out of eight and need to play some really good cricket. Good part is that our bowling was really good today but our batsmen couldn't complete the job."

Delhi will next host Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
