Delhi Daredevils hosted KXIP for their first match at home after five straight away games in the ongoing IPL 2018.

Delhi won the toss and chose to field first. Gambhir announced that Dan Christian, Amit Mishra, Prithvi Shaw, Liam Plunkett and Avesh Khan came into the team. On the other hand, KXIP rested Gayle for this match and brought in David Miller. Delhi Daredevils needed to win this match to keep themselves in contention for the playoffs.

KXIP’s start was not great, as Aaron Finch’s struggles at the top continued and he was dismissed for 2 by Avesh Khan. Rahul (23) and Mayank (21) added 36 quick runs before Plunkett removed both batsmen, and KXIP found themselves 60/3. Karun scored 34 and Miller scored 26, but the KXIP bowlers kept picking wickets and run rate down.

In the end, KXIP finished on 143/8. Liam Plunkett picked 3/17 on his IPL debut, while Avesh Khan picked 2/36 and Trent Boult picked 2/21 in 3 overs.

Delhi opened with Gambhir and Shaw, who made his T20 format debut. However, DD found themselves in trouble, as Gambhir was dismissed for 4 by Tye. Maxwell made 12 before Rajpoot got him caught by Tye. Shaw looked good in his 22 but played a rash shot to be bowled by Rajpoot. Pant (6) and Christian (4) failed to give Shreyas Iyer the required support.

Iyer, fortunately, found an able partner in Rahul Tewatia (24 in 21 balls ) and took DD towards the target. DD needed 17 runs off the last over bowled by Mujeeb and Iyer sent the second ball into the stands, to complete his fifty as well.

In the end, Iyer took them really close, scoring 57 off 45 balls with 1 six and 5 fours. But needing a six off the last ball, Iyer perished, caught by Finch off Mujeeb and KXIP won the match by 4 runs.
