Virender Sehwag is delighted with the way the swashbuckling left hand West Indies opener Chris Gayle has come back to form for his team Kings XI Punjab in the current Indian Premier League season. Sehwag is not at all surprised how Gayle has hammered the bowlers all around the park in the last two games.
Sehwag has come out in hindsight now and defended the move in the auction to purchase the declining Chris Gayle. Chris was initially not bid for in the auction by anyone before during the last moments Kings XI got him amongst the ranks for his base price.
Talking to India Today. The former India captain reiterated this and said,"Isn't it right? I saved the IPL - nobody is bigger than Gayle. I was expecting Gayle to do this,"
Gayle has been in sensational form this season, hitting a fine 63 versus Chennai Super Kings and an unbeaten 104 against, the best bowling line up in the league, SRH.
Gayle wasn't retained by the RCB franchise because of his on the wane physical fitness and his dipping form. He didn't get going at all last season for them.
Sehwag on this said, "He was suffering from a bad back and he missed a lot of games. Virat Kohli dropped him because he was not scoring runs and not many people were going to buy him, If I don't play him in the XI, he is a good guy for marketing deals - it's my job,"
Gayle also is very happy with the way he has batted so far. After his scintillating hundred versus SRH. He said at the post-match presentation that, "A lot of people said 'Chris has a point to prove.' Virender Sehwag has saved the IPL by picking me. Sehwag said in an interview: If Chris wins you two games, we have our monies worth. I need to have a chat with him about that!,"
