Chris Gayle is back in the news after his scintillating century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. His century, which was his 6th in Indian Premier League and 21st in T20 format, led his team to a big win over the formidable SRH team.

Chris Gayle was released by his former team Royal Challengers Bangalore for the IPL 2018 auction and went unsold in the first two rounds of the auction; giving an impression that we might not see the best T20 player in IPL 2018. However, Kings XI Punjab owner Preity Zinta placed the sole bid on him in the last round and bought him for his base price of Rs 2 crore.

Chris Gayle was benched for KXIP’s first match of IPL 2018 season against RCB. But he made his first appearance against CSK and slammed 63 runs 30 odd balls, leading KXIP to a win. However, it was against SRH, he unleashed the Gayle of yesteryears, as he smashed 11 sixes and 1 four in his 63 balls 104*.

Gayle in the post-match presentation said, “A lot of people thought that I am old. Nothing to prove though.” It might be taken as a sly dig at his former franchise and at other franchises who didn’t bid for him in IPL 2018 auction.

Chennai Super Kings understood the meaning behind the words of Chris Gayle and posted a tweet with the caption “A lot of people thought that I am old. Nothing to prove though.” Thanks for the inspiring words, Gayle. Our team is all ears!
