Chris Gayle, who had gone unsold in the first phase of IPL auction 2018, has scored the first ton of this season. Playing for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Gayle smashed a quick hundred off 63 balls against a strong bowling unit of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

The Caribbean batsman had scored 63 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in his first appearance in this year's IPL.

Talking about his new team and franchise he said, "I'm always determined, wherever I go in the world and whichever franchise I represent."

"A lot of people said 'Chris has a point to prove.' Virender Sehwag has saved the IPL by picking me. Sehwag said in an interview: If Chris wins you two games, we have our monies worth. I need to have a chat with him about that!," Gayle said.

Gayle revealed that he enjoyed batting on this track and he is going to miss it. "I'm glad to be able to get 100 here today. I'm going to miss this wicket to be honest. Time waits for no one but I'm not here to prove anything to be anyone. Been there, done that. Just here to put some respect on the name. Tomorrow's my daughter's birthday, so going to spend some time with her and enjoy this win. DON'T FORGET THE NAME."

Taking a toll on people who counted him out because of his age, he said, "A lot of people thought I'm too old, after this innings, I have nothing to prove. This hundred is dedicated to my daughter. Tomorrow (Friday) is her birthday," Gayle said during the mid-innings break.

Revealing his secret to staying fit, he added,"I'm very dedicated. Since joining Kings XI, Sehwag told me to stick with the yoga guy and a massage guy, that's the secret, I guess," he said.

KXIP won their third game of this season by 15 runs. They had put up a total of 193 for 3 before restricting SRH to 178 for 4 in 20 overs. It was also Sunrisers' first loss this season.
