Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) met in the ninth match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 11. Both the teams had lost their first two matches and were looking for their first win in the tournament.

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and chose to bowl first. DD brought in Dan Christian and Jason Roy in, while Mumbai brought in Hardik and Akila Dananjaya.

Evin Lewis (48 off 28 balls; 4x4s, 4x6s) and Suryakumar Yadav (53 off 32 balls; 7x4s, 1x6s) put on 84 runs in the first six overs and went on to put 102 run 9 overs, before Lewis fell to Tewatia, caught by Roy. Suryakumar followed Lewis soon for 53, gone LBW. Ishan Kishan came in and smoked 44 runs off 23 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes before Dan Christian bowled him. Christian then removed Kieron Pollard off the next ball to cap off a successful over for DD.

Remaining MI batting couldn’t put up many runs in the last few overs and MI finished on 194/7 in 20 overs. Trent Boult (2/39), Dan Christian (2/35) and Rahul Tewatia (2/36) were the best bowlers for DD.

Delhi required a similar start and Jason Roy gave it to them. He hit Hardik Pandya for 21 runs in one over. Gambhir was dismissed by Mustafizur for 15, which brought in Rishabh Pant. Pant (47 off 25 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes) and Roy 69 quick runs for the second wicket, before a blinder by Pollard, ended Pant’s innings, off Krunal Pandya.

Maxwell came in and hit a four and six to get to 13, before Krunal dismissed him, as Hardik Pandya took MI’s match of the season.

Roy was still present there and was joined by Shreyas Iyer, who took on the bowlers, lessening the pressure on Roy.

In the last over bowled by Mustafizur Rahman, 11 runs were needed and Jason Roy hit the first two balls for a four and six. Rahman made things interesting by bowling three dot balls, but Roy hit one over the infield to win the match. He remained not out on 91 from 53 balls.

DD defeated MI by 7 wickets with Iyer not out on 27.

In the end, DD created the record of the highest chase at Wankhede in IPL to win their first game at Wankhede Stadium in six years.
