Bangladesh’s White-ball captain Mashrafe Mortaza, on Friday (13 April), revealed that he is trying to bowl a semi-cross seam delivery and that he experimented during the domestic league. He is also confident that this new trick will certainly add variety to his bowling.

In the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League (DPL), the all-rounder has used his new technique with the ball, and even he finished as the DPL’s highest wicket-taker with 39 wickets.

As per reports in Cricbuzz, Mortaza said of it, “I have tried to bowl in a semi-cross seam position much like England's Stuart Broad. I worked with my wrist position like the way I always do. But for me, the focal point was to learn some new tricks that would help me get a better result in flat wickets.”

With the pitches across the world becoming gradually friendlier for the batsmen in the limited over’s cricket, Mortaza believes that it was essential to put into his repertoire.

The 34-year-od further explained, “It was a flat wicket during the Champions Trophy and it would be the same in the next World Cup so felt that something new should be tried. I could grip the ball with seam-up and cross seam but this time I opted to see how it goes with the semi-cross seam. Though I had planned it but watching TV and video helped me a lot. I had seen Stuart Broad bowl in this grip and tried to bowl following some of his grip positionings.”

Reportedly, it has said that Mortaza had troubled the batsmen the most during the Bangladesh league, and the seamer hoping to execute it during the international matches for his national side.

Mortaza signed off by saying, “I am a firm believer that if your length is ok you can get away unless it is a bad day. After my pace got reduced all I did was concentrate on the length and now that has become one of my area of strength. I'm getting confident with the new grip that I have tried and hopefully will execute it during the international matches.”
