South African hit-man AB de Villiers has played a terrific match-winning innings of 57 off 40 deliveries to help the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by four wickets, and register their first win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 in Bengaluru on Friday.

However, de Villiers, who is regarded as one of the best batsmen in the world, is happy with his contribution in the RCB’s win at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, but regret at his failure to finish the game off for his team. Came to bat at No.4, ABD hit 2 boundaries and smashed 4 deliveries out of the park in his blistering knock, but went fall down at Andrew Tye’s deliveries, caught out by Karun Nair.

As per reports in India Today, de Villiers told reporters after the match, “Really wanted to get over the line. Wanted to be not out in the end but feel sorry that I got out and put pressure on the lower order batsmen. I love guiding the team to victory being unbeaten, unfortunately, couldn't do that.”

The 34-year-old batsman also lavished praised on Yuzvendra Chahal and W Sundar, saying, “The wicket was a little bit on the slower side and Yuzi (Chahal) and Sundar bowled well. They got the important wickets and got the momentum our way at half stage.”

The Proteas also thanked the Bengaluru crowd for their constant support throughout the match. De Villiers signed off by saying, “It's a really special place to play cricket - the Chinnaswamy. Get a lot of crowd support here.”

Now, RCB led by Virat Kohli will next play Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday (15 April) at home.
