Bombay High Court on Friday issued a notice to Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) asking about the water usage plan for maintaining the MCA stadium and pitch during the IPL 11 games.

MCA Stadium in Pune is given the remaining six matches of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after IPL GC found Chennai unsuitable to host IPL games due to Cauvery Water protests in Tamil Nadu.

Drought-like conditions in the state of Maharashtra have been yearly affairs with water levels falling during summer months. Farmers in the state have staged frequent protests and many - especially in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. As a result, the Bombay High Court on Friday asked how the stadium would be watered and taken care of considering the peak summer months have almost arrived.

MCA was asked the same question about the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and at that time, MCA had said it would not make use of potable water and instead, use water conserved through rain-water harvesting system.

MCA's counsel AS Khandeparkar had clarified that approximately 3,30,000 liters of water will be required for the above purposes on each day of the IPL match in the city.

A petition in Bombay High Court in 2013 had referred to statistics made available from cricket authorities, close to 65 lakh liter water had been used that year to maintain three stadiums - Wankhede in Mumbai, DY Patil in Navi Mumbai and Sahara Stadium in Pune - during the IPL that year.
