Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad faced each other in Hyderabad in the 7th match of the IPL 2018. Mumbai lost their first match against Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener and Hyderabad inflicted a 9 wicket defeat on Rajasthan Royals in their first match.
Mumbai was asked to bat first as Kane Williamson of SRH won the toss. MI brought in Ben Cutting and Pradeep Sangwan for injured Hardik Pandya and Mitchell McClenaghan. SRH had to bring in Sandeep Sharma for his SRH debut, in place of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Though Lewis (29 in 17; 3x4s, 2x6s), Rohit (11) and Kishan (9) started off well, Kaul removed Kishan and Lewis in one over and Stanlake removed Rohit to peg MI back. Krunal Pandya (15) and Kieron Pollard (28 in 23) tried to rebuild the innings, along with Suryakumar Yadav (28 in 30), led MI to 147/8.
Siddarth Kaul (2/29) and Sandeep Sharma (2/25) were the pick of the SRH bowlers. They were supported well by Stanlake picked 2/42, Rashid Khan picked 1/13 and Shakib picked 1/34.
Twitter was amazed the way the defending champions played, especially their captain Rohit Sharma, who got out for a rash shot. The Twitterati reacted strongly to this performance and tweeted their emotions.
Here are some tweets:
Bhuvi missing but Sid Kaul has quite nicely stepped up. Three wickets in the power-play overs is BIG. Too many shots too much early for #MI #SRHvMI

The numbers say that if you lose 3 wickets inside 6 overs you lose 75% of your matches. #MI will be hoping this is one of those other games...

Everyone just wants to hit those BIG shots for Mumbai Indians. That line up would want an accumulator too. Said that ages back. They need one batsman to occupy a bit to allow the other to hit. Else, they are asking the all arounders to bail them out every time. #SRHvMI #IPL2018

#MI Batting feels Top heavy ,especially when @ImRo45 gets out early, they give that feeling of ,just a wicket away for the opposition , a price paid perhaps for too many multi-dimensional options #SRHvMI #BESTvsBEST #IPL2018

Mumbai 'Googlied' by @SunRisers's Rashid Khan. Remarkable figures. 18 dot balls in a T20 game. You gotta be kidding me. Mind boggling accuracy. #SRHvMI

Tonight @sidkaul22 and @sandeep25a made sure #SRH didn’t miss #bhuvi. But same was not the case with #MI, they missed #hardik badly with the bat. Well bowled @rashidkhan_19 ???????? #SRHvMI #VIVOIPL

Sid kaul has been real good in these couple of games. Those two wickets in One over was huge. Good to see an indian fast bowler doing well for his team at crucial times @ipl @StarSportsIndia

Fine all round bowling performance by SR to restrict defending champions to 147 despite Bhuvi's absence. IMO, Mumbai about 30 runs short of defendable score. Their bowlers have a task ahead. Not to mention captain @ImRo45 to keep his side's self-belief #IPL18
