IPL 2018: Revised target was tough to chase, says Gautam Gambhir

Delhi Daredevils skipper Gautam Gambhir thinks that the revised target for his team in the rain-curtailed game versus RR because of the D/L method was slightly unfair to them. Chasing the target of 71 in 6 overs, DD lost the game by just 10 runs.

Put into bat first, Delhi did well to limit the Rajasthan batting line up for 153/5 in 17.5 overs on a really flat surface before the rain intervened. Gambhir was banking his team to stop them for a manageable target and then chase it down with the dew setting in.

After the match, Gambhir talked about this and said, “We were very much in the game. It was a beautiful wicket to bat on, then 150-odd for 5 in 18 overs, we thought we could contain them to 170 and it was chaseable, especially with dew coming in later on,”

“We were very much happy with the first innings. But then in 6 overs, 71 was tough. We had to go from ball one. Obviously, with these sort of games, things could go either way. Just 2 overs of Powerplay, it’s very difficult, If it was a 20-over game, it would’ve been much easier to chase.”

Delhi which was looking one of the favourites on paper prior to the start of the season has now lost their first two games against the Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals and needs to quickly resurrect their campaign before it all goes downhill. It mustn't, IPL needs a new winner and Delhi winning the whole thing will really help. For that, they need to get their combination right quickly and start playing the kind of cricket you expect from a Gautam Gambhir team in the IPL.
