The Cauvery water issues between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has caused Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium to lose matches in the ongoing IPL 2018.

Chennai Super Kings returned to their home ground of MA Chidambaram Stadium against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 10. They triumphed over KKR by 5 wickets thanks to Sam Billings’ innings and a match-winning six by Ravindra Jadeja.

According to the reports by ANI, it has been decided that the remaining matches scheduled to take place in Chennai will be moved out of the city and the state, to another place, yet to be decided.

The start of the match saw massive protests from Tamil political outfits over the center’s delay in setting up the Cauvery water board. Thamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi chief, Velmurugan released black balloons near the stadium. Political parties and fringe groups have demanded the cancellation of all seven IPL matches to be held in Chennai till the center forms the Cauvery water management board.

Actor turned politician Rajinikanth had, on Sunday, said, "If they don't cancel, they should at least allow players and spectators to wear black badges."

The match even saw shoes being thrown at CSK players like Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis.

Division of the waters of the Cauvery river has been a matter of a decades-old dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. From time to time, Karnataka has refused to release waters, citing inadequate monsoons and a dearth of drinking water in key cities including state capital Bengaluru.

In February, the Supreme Court largely upheld the Cauvery Tribunal's verdict and suggested a division formula, which gives Tamil Nadu a smaller but assured share by the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board.
