The match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram stadium on April 10 was marred by protests from political outfits over the formation of the 'Cauvery Management Board'.

Thousands gathered outside the MA Chidambaram to demand the establishment of a Cauvery Water Management Board, hours before Chennai Super Kings' home match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.

The toss was in fact, delayed by 13 minutes as match officials apparently struggled to get inside the stadium.

Anti-IPL protests by pro-Tamil groups erupted in Chennai. Several activists including film directors were detained even as police chased away agitators in some places.

Members of the supposedly fringe political group, bearing red flags, flung shoes into the ground from the 'F Upper' stand of the stadium, threw footwear into the ground.

One landed near Ravindra Jadeja who was fielding near the boundary and close to CSK reserves Lungi Ngidi and Faf du Plessis.

Eminent personalities from Tamil Nadu including actor Rajinikanth had urged CSK players to boycott matches in Chennai or wear black armbands.
