IPL 11 has been hit by a slew of injuries before and during the tournament. The start of the tournament has seen Chennai Super Kings marred by injuries losing, a big player in Kedar Jadhav to a Grade two hamstring injury. They already lost Mitchell Santner before the tournament.

Jadhav was the one who batted on one leg in the opening match against Mumbai Indians and won the match by hitting Mustafizur Rahman for a six and a four. During the post-match interview, Jadhav admitted that he will be out of IPL for a couple of weeks.

But scans after the match revealed that the injury is highly serious and Jadhav will miss the whole of the tournament. This news comes as a big blow to Chennai Super Kings plans, which will now have to look for a replacement for him.

Let’s have a look at the five best replacements for Kedar Jadhav for CSK in IPL 11

SHELDON JACKSON

Sheldon Jackson has been part of Indian Premier League previously, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Jackson has a good record in domestic cricket with 3971 runs in 55 FC matches at an average of 49.63.

A brilliant wicketkeeper as well, Jackson has all the tools to be a successful top order batsman. In IPL whoever, Jackson has had limited opportunities. With Kedar Jadhav gone from the CSK team, they have not only lost a very good finisher and part-time bowlers, they have also lost a wicket keeper.

Given the confidence and chance, Jackson can play the role of a finisher to the tee and also provide a backup to MS Dhoni behind the stumps. Jackson is an excellent fielder anywhere in the field as well.

BABA APARAJITH

Baba Aparajith is a technically correct batsman and a good off-spinner

23-year-old Baba Aparajith is Tamil Nadu’s most talented batsman currently. Him going unsold in the IPL 2018 auction was a surprise for all, given his excellent record for Tamil Nadu in every format. He has been part of Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiant set up before, but has never got to play a game in IPL so far.

Aparajith is a technically correct batsman who can open or play in the middle order, something CSK requires desperately given their display in their opening match against MI. Aparajith is also a handy bowler, a skill that Jadhav also possessed.

Baba Aparajith will be an able replacement for Jadhav if picked by the CSK.

ANKEET BAWANE

Maharashtra’s Ankeet Bawane has an FC average of over 50 and his claim to fame, was being part of a record partnership of 594 with Swapnil Gugale, in which he scored 258*.

Apart from that, Bawane has impressed one and all with his technically proficient batting in all formats for Maharashtra. He has 488 runs from 22 T20 matches with a strike rate of 124.17. He made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2017, scoring 12*.

Bawane’s technical proficiency will help CSK develop a formidable middle order to counter the middle overs and will help Bawane carve a niche out for himself.

ISHAN POREL

Though Chennai Super Kings chose a formidable squad in the IPL 2018 auction, they missed out on the Indian fast bowling contingent. Bowlers like Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Shardul Thakur, Monu Kumar and Kanishk Seth don’t exactly instill confidence when seen as support for foreign bowlers like Mark Wood and Lungi Ngidi.

Bengal’s Ishan Porel might solve that problem for CSK. Porel had a brilliant Under 19 World Cup, where he impressed everyone with his pace and bounce something he gets due to his 6’3” frame. With Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti getting multi-million rupees deals during the IPL 2018 auction, Porel missing out was a surprise.

However, now Porel might get his place in the limelight, as he is the perfect young fast bowler, who will serve CSK for a long time to come.

UNMUKT CHAND

Delhi’s Unmukt Chand was touted as the next Virat Kohli, after his U19 World Cup win in 2012. Chand had scored a century in the finals against Australia and that tag of ‘next Virat Kohli’ stuck to him.

Chand made his IPL debut for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2011, but indifferent form since then has since him play for Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals but spending time on sidelines. However, his last few innings in the limited overs domestic league for Delhi have been brilliant, including a match-winning innings played with a broken jaw.

Recently, he made a couple of centuries in the List A matches in the Dhaka league in Bangladesh and has been in good form. He has matured from his hard-hitting days and is ripe for a return to the Indian Premier League.

Chennai Super Kings will benefit immensely from Chand in their middle order or even as an opener, as he tends to play long innings and stays onto the wicket in an attempt to finish the game.
