The moment it was realized and then announced by the Rajasthan Royals that they'll be missing the services of Steve Smith, the team wasted no time in appointing Ajinkya Rahane as their captain. Originally the vice-captain of the side, Rahane is someone the franchise can bank on to take such a big responsibility and this is exactly what he is hoping to excel at and lead RR's team from the front.

Rahane talked about the same recently, when he was quoted by PTI stating firstly how the misunderstood concept of aggression these days is something he is very clear about and doesn't want to move away from his usual approach, “I’m pretty calm and composed. I like to go in that fashion.”

Rahane is very similar to his Sunrisers Hyderabad counterpart Kane Williamson in nature and against SRH only RR will be starting off their campaign tonight. On this comparison, Rahane said, “Everyone has a different style of leading the team and playing their game, but we respect each other,”

Rahane also cleared on how he is willing to take opinions from his teammates, especially the senior members, on various matters. He said,“It is important to back your strength than copying anyone else on the field as a captain and as a player. So, I will back my style and back my strength. I’ll take opinions from my senior guys.”

Ajinkya has not been a part of India's T20 setup for while and there are players in this RR team that have played twice and thrice the number of T20s he's played. When asked about this Rahane said, “Everyone has their different style of leading the team but I’m really lucky to have Jos with me. Stokesy (Ben Stokes)... These guys are really experienced in the shorter formats. As a team, we all are really excited about this season and personally, I am looking forward to this new role. We’re lucky to have a good team and experienced players like Jos (Butler), Stokesy. We had a good preparation in Jaipur and had a good practice session last night here as well. We want to start well, get that momentum going and play our brand of cricket that Rajasthan Royals is known for,”
