Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a triumphant return to the Indian Premier League fold, with a thrilling one wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in the opening match of IPL 2018.

Though the CSK fans are highly ecstatic due to the return of their favorite team after 2 years of suspension; Tamil actor Rajinikanth isn’t very impressed with Chennai hosting IPL matches, when the state is embroiled in a dispute over Cauvery river water.

According to a report of NDTV, he called the decision to host IPL matches in Chennai an embarrassment.

Rajinikanth, who has announced his entry into the politics, asked the fans and players to wear black armbands to protest the Centre's delay in setting up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB), as directed by the Supreme Court.

Rajinikanth, along with fellow actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan as well as a host of other celebrities protested at Chennai's Valluvar Kottam on Sunday over the Centre's delay in setting up the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

"There has already been a delay," said Rajinikanth, whose party has plans of contesting all 234 seats in the next Assembly election in Tamil Nadu.

Two-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings will host fellow two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on 10 April and it will be the first IPL match to take place in the city in three years.
