King XI Punjab (KXIP) is already laced with many big-hitters in their line-up with the likes of KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Aaron Finch and David Miller, which might have made things quite difficult for domestic Indian players to break it to the Playing XI in the IPL 2018.
But explosive Karnataka batsman Karun Nair is not much concerned with it, saying his confidence level is currently high with his brilliant domestic show and he is looking forward to a good season with KXIP.
He also said that he is not thinking about his individual opportunity, but says they have to work as a unit to clinch the maiden title for the franchise.
As per New Indian Express, Nair said, “Problem of plenty, it is a good thing to have. Many teams do not have such options this season. We are in a happy place. Also, it is a good thing to have players who can win matches on their own. But as far as I am concerned, you can only win a tournament if all 11 players contribute. Everyone has to contribute some way or the other. It is good to have match-winners, but we have to play as a team to clinch the title.”
Nair, who is the only player with two hundreds during this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is well aware of the strong competition in the KXIP but said he is ready to bat at any position in the IPL 11.
The right-hander further said, “Obviously, my confidence level is quite high. I scored two hundred in the domestic T20s, and I am looking forward to a good season with Kings XI. I will try and play normal cricket, and my aim will be to help win matches. I have done well in the opening slot, but I am ready to bat at any position that the management wants me to.”
Nair signed off by saying, “We want to win the title. For me, the thirst is there to win it as well. All teams will head into the season thinking that they can go all the way.”
