IPL 2018: DD skipper Gautam Gambhir impressed with Mohammed Shami’s accuracy and pace in nets

Gambhir returns to DD as captain for IPL 11.

Mohammed Shami bowled in the nets despite a bandage on his fore head

The IPL 2018 season is upon us and preparations are at their full swing in all the eight franchises. Delhi Daredevils went back to their local captain Gautam Gambhir in this season and bought in Ricky Ponting as the head coach.

They also bought Mohammed Shami in the IPL 2018 auction and banked on the experienced Bengal pacer to help them in their quest for an IPL trophy.

However, Shami’s preparations were marred by the marital conflict between him and his wife Hasin Jahan, who accused him of adultery, cheating and domestic violence. She even went to IPL governing council and met DD’s owners, asking them to not allow Shami to play in the IPL 11.

However, Shami decided to travel to Dehradun to prepare for the upcoming IPL season and unfortunately met with an accident during his return to Delhi.

Gautam Gambhir will lead Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2018

But despite a bandage on his head, Shami joined the DD preparation camp in Delhi and impressed one and all with his pace and accuracy. Delhi Daredevils captain Gautam Gambhir watched Shami bowl without saying much, but when he was done, urged him to continue in the same vein.

He told Shami that he was "bowling in the right lengths, and producing good deliveries consistently".

Shami will be Gambhir’s main weapon during the IPL 11 and Delhi Daredevils will kick start their campaign against the Kings XI Punjab on April 8.
