Prithvi Shaw, who led India U-19 to World Cup victory a couple of months back, isn't sure about his place in Delhi Daredevils XI. He was bought by the franchise for Rs. 1.2 crore in IPL 2018 auction.

The 18-year-old, however, isn't much worried about getting a chance to play. He will be guided by coach Ricky Ponting and skipper Gautam Gambhir, which will help him in gaining massive experience.

“It doesn’t matter if we play or not. Whenever we play, we’ll give it all for the team. We’ll get good experience in the IPL. It’s a great opportunity even if we sit outside. To share the dressing room with Gambhir sir, Ricky sir – it’s a great opportunity for us in the first season. I’m looking forward to the experience,” he said on Tuesday.

Shaw revealed his interaction with Ponting. The youngster said he asked the former Aussie on mental preparation for the T20 format.

“So far it’s been really good. Practice sessions, coming together as a group – Ricky sir is there,” he said. “We’re really enjoying ourselves. We’ve been together for three-four days but it feels like we’ve been together for a longer time.

“I just met Gambhir sir yesterday because he wasn’t well. He was asking about the World Cup, how it went. Ricky sir has been working hard for me and for the team. In T20 cricket, you just need to be mentally prepared for situations. Ricky sir said T20 is very fast and you don’t get much time. He said small things matter in T20s and he’s just preparing us for those things that he has already achieved in his career.”

Shaw, speaking on their success in U-19 World Cup, said the difference between India and other sides was the talent. “Indian cricket has much more talent than others, especially spinners. In Indian cricket there are lots of spinners who take wickets,” he said.

“That was our advantage. Our fast bowlers bowled really quick. Nobody was able to judge them or play them properly. Batting, we looked like the strongest batting side in the World Cup.

“What we’ve learned from the World Cup journey was coming together as a team. Everyone gave something for the country. Everyone contributed then – not just me, Manjot (Kalra), (Shubman) Gill, (Kamlesh) Nagarkoti. Everyone gave 100%. In the practice sessions also, not just games. Obviously Rahul (Dravid) sir was there with us. He has played so much cricket, he knew what to tell junior cricketers.”
