Andre Russell who was one of the two players to be retained by the KKR franchise ahead of the auctions has reached Kolkata and has joined the KKR camp. He has also started his training session as he is trying to really keep himself fit for the season. Russell missed the previous season for KKR as he was suspended from all forms of cricket as he failed to turn up for a doping test in spite of regular reminders.

On reaching Kolkata and joining his team, the hard-hitting all-rounder opened up on how he plans to play the season for his franchise. He said that it was early to be in the city as it gives him ample time to get accustomed to the conditions.

He then stressed on working hard to regain his fitness before the campaign kicks off. As an athlete, Russell has been a top performer for Windies Cricket and for KKR as well and he looks to do the same this season as well.

Regarding the time spent with Usain Bolt, Russell highlighted how his coach Edward helped him regain his full fitness. He also said that he now wants to hire Edward as his personal fitness trainer after seeing how good Edward has worked with Bolt.

He also spoke about the KKR squad this season which according to him has a lot of promise. He further said that the team boasts of a lot of young talent and that this team can do really well this season.

Regarding achieving success this season, Russell said that if everyone steps up to the plate and understand and deliver according to their abilities, results will automatically follow.

Having watched new KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik in opposition teams, Russell said playing with him in the same team will be an exciting opportunity for him. Karthik being a wicketkeeper and also leading the side, Russell said that his field setting will be really interesting to watch.

He concluded by finally keeping a word on Shahrukh Khan, the owner of KKR. He said that he is looking for SRK to throw them a party soon as the party animal is in town.

KKR play RCB in their season opener in Kolkata on April 8.
