IPL 2018: Sandeep Lamichhane's jersey number revealed

Young Nepal leg spinning sensation –Sandeep Lamichhane was handed the Delhi Daredevils jersey by the Nepal Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista on Thursday (22 March).

The 17-year-old Lamichhane has become the first Nepali to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) when DD bid for him in the mega IPL Auction 2018, picked up for Rs 20 Lakh for the coming season.

Mr. Bista handed the No. 1 jersey to the youngster in the presence of a representative of DD during Jersey unveiling program organized at Hotel Annapurna in Kathmandu.

As per ANI, Lamichhane said of picking the number on his jersey, “I cannot take the number 25 from my seniors, as the birth date of my deceased Nephew falls on January i.e. 1, so I took the number for the jersey and we always want to be number one for which I took the number.”

Lamichhane, who has been likened to spin legend Shane Warne, added, “If you get the chance to play in the IPL, lots of players will be there who are very experienced and I think I will learn a lot.”

Meanwhile, DD CEO Hemant Dua told the reporters about Sandeep’s selection for the IPL 2018, “Somebody from Nepal would have taken him before us had we not stepped in. Sandeep Lamichhane is someone who is talented who brings something unique to the team.”

The youngster also posted a picture on Twitter with a caption, “Jersey unveiling program of @DelhiDaredevils yesterday at Kathmandu. Thanks to @inspiranti Sir and his team for your presence. Keep supporting and loads of love to everyone out there ???? I love this Jersey. Do you ?”
