Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) has got a strong squad for the upcoming IPL season. It will get more lethal if the available players perform their role expectedly. KXIP have R Ashwin as their skipper.
They have got power hitters like Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle in the line-up too. Speaking to Times Now, the CEO of KXIP, Satish Menon had revealed that buying Yuvraj in the IPL 2018 auctions was pre-planned.
Yuvraj is a very key player of the team. Not only he can get runs, wicket and save runs on the field, the veteran can help his inexperienced teammates to gain experience with his company.
Yuvraj, in a chat with KXIP social media team, was asked few questions before the IPL 2018. "Punjabiyo! The sher is back," says the southpaw while starting the interview. Below are the questions Yuvraj was asked and his answers to it.
How does it feel to be back home playing for Kings XI Punjab?
It feels good. Feels like coming back home. Looking forward to the season and to play in front of the home crowd again.
What does the Punjabi spirit mean to you?
Being Punjabi means, just being yourself. Just going on and expressing yourself and playing with no fear, I guess. That's what the true Punjabi is, being fearless.
What do you think of the KXIP squad this season?
Ya, I feel we have a quite a strong squad. We are very strong in batting and we got some really good spinners. If we have to win a tournament, you have to be doing well in all three departments. If we can do that consistently, hopefully, we can go in the last four.
How would you describe Chris Gayle as a person?
I think he is one of my good friends. On the field and off the field I shared a good relationship with him. He is a very humble person. He is fun loving and he has got a beautiful heart. You wanna play with people like this and enjoy the game. On his day, Chris is the most dangerous batsman in the world, along with AB de Villiers.
What are your thoughts on 16-year-old Afghan Spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman?
I am looking forward to how Mujeeb bowls. I couldn't figure out watching youtube videos. I guess lot of guys wouldn't figure it out in the IPLs as well. Last year I played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rashid (Khan) was very good for us. Hopefully, we can bank on him to win few games for Kings XI Punjab.
You are an icon for KXIP fans, what message do you have for the team?
Well, I always love my fans and I always had their support in my tough times. So, I want to thanks them from bottom of my heart. I would like them to come and support the Punjab team. Hopefully, it will be a full house.
What do you think of R Ashwin leading the side?
I always thought R Ashwin is a smart cricketer. He is always adapted to situations. I feel he is the right man for the job. Building a team for Punjab in next 3-4 years, I think he is the right man to do it. And I hope Punjab does well under him. It's his first stint as an IPL captain and I wish him all the best.
What kind of impact do you think Venkatesh Prasad on KXIP younger bowlers in the squad?
We have got a very young and inexperienced bowling attack, I think he can really help them with good tips. When I started bowling, he was my senior and he was the bowling coach in 2007 when we won the world cup. So I am looking forward to playing alongside with him.
