Kerala wicket-keeper batsman –Sanju Samson, who is all set to return to Rajasthan Royals (RR) colors in the upcoming 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, feels blessed to be back in Royals’ folds.
Samson, who is the youngest batsman to score 1000 runs in the IPL, further said that he is eagerly waiting to meet Australian great Shane Warne –RR coach for the IPL 2018.
As per IANS, the 23-year-old told reporters, “I am blessed to be back in Rajasthan Royals and want to give my best to the team. I am eagerly awaiting my meeting with Warne and am looking forward to play under his directions. As I have never met him, my excitement is all the more increasing with each passing day. I will definitely be learning a lot from the veteran player.”
The young keeper went to further insist that there is no pressure environment in the RR camp when asked whether the team is in under pressure after a break of two years. Samson added, “Rajasthan Royals is known for its excitement, thrill, happiness and its players are known to be helpful to each other and hence I am delighted to be back in the team. There is no pressure kind of thing among players.”
England’s Jos Butler, who is also in the RR team can give a tough competition for the ‘keeper’s role, but Samson believes in giving his best, and ready to do whatever the management wants from him.
The right-hander further added on the same, “I strongly believe in giving my best. Butler is a match winner and a fantastic player and I admire him for what he is. Also, I strongly believe in team management and will be happy to do whatever my management wants me to do.”
Samson, who is the youngest player to score a half-century in the IPL and Champions League Twenty20, is currently in Jaipur to attend the first coaching camp organized by RR before heading into the IPL 2018.
However, young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been giving him tough competition for international selection, but Samson is not thinking in that direction. He signed off by saying, “I am concentrating on batting better as a cricketer; I really want to get better at what I am and improve my skills. Selection is not in my hand and hence I have stopped thinking in that direction.”
Royals will begin their IPL 2018 campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 9 April in Hyderabad.
