IPL 2018: We’ll miss Rahul Dravid, but looking forward to work with Shane Warne, says Sanju Samson

Young Indian batsman –Sanju Samson on Wednesday recalled the day when he first time met the legendary batsman –Rahul Dravid in Jaipur to give a trial for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2013.

The 23-year-old termed it a special day when Dravid asked him to play for RR, saying he can’t forget that day. Currently, he is preparing for IPL 2018 in the RR’s three-day camp in Jaipur.

 RR has returned to IPL folds after serving two-year ban over spot-fixing, while the Royals will play their seven homes games at Sawai Mansingh Stadium - after a gap of four years.

The Kerala wicket-keeper batsman also returned to RR side when he was picked up by the franchise for IPL 2018.

Speaking to, Samson said, “I had played really well (during the trials) that day. That was the first time I met Rahul sir, he was taking the selections. He came and asked me, ‘can you play for Rajasthan Royals?’. That’s the best thing that has ever happened to me in cricket. I can never forget that day.”

The right-hander said he will miss Dravid in the tournament, but is looking forward to work with the Aussie legend –Shane Warne, who has been named as the mentor for the IPL 2018.

Samson signed off by saying, “We’ll miss Rahul sir for sure. But we have had the best of him and looking forward to Shane Warne. I am very excited that he is a part of Royals. This will be my first experience with Warne. I have heard a lot about him, like how he is a straight-minded person and a positive thinker. How he contributes to the team and boosts youngsters’ confidence. I am waiting for his arrival.”
