IPL 2018: 5 players who might miss IPL 11 due to injury issues

The IPL 2018 will be starting from April 7th.

The IPL season 11 is scheduled to start off from April 7 with traditional rivals Mumbai Indians clashing with Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The IPL 2018 has already been touched by some issues which have put question marks over the player availabilities. However, the biggest issues have been injuries to some key players, who are playing in various other leagues or domestic cricket.

Here are 5 such players whose participation in IPL 11 in is doubt due to injury:

JOFRA ARCHER (RR)

Jofra Archer made international headlines for his exploits with both bat and ball in the recent Big Bash League season. Playing for Hobart Hurricanes, Archer displayed the immense potential to garner interest amongst the PSL and IPL scouts and got contracts with both the leagues.

Rajasthan Royals bought him for a whopping Rs 7.2 crore in the auction in January. Archer played for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2018. However, he got to play only two matches, as a severe side strain curtailed his PSL season and put a doubt in minds of IPL fans also, whether he will turn out for RR or not.

Archer is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in cricket today and the 22-year-old Barbadian player is waiting to qualify for England in 2022. Everyone is praying for Archer to get fit to play in the IPL, as India needs to witness his skills and abilities.

ANDRE RUSSELL (KKR)

Andre Russell - KKR

Andre Russell, who returned to competitive cricket in the Pakistan Super League 2018, after completing a one year ban; has been ruled out of the entire PSL 2018 due to a hamstring injury.

Russell, who was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders before the IPL 2018 auctions, might miss a part of IPL 2018 or the entire tournament, depending on his recovery. "Russell was injured during the game against Karachi Kings and MRI results were not encouraging. He will not take any further part in the tournament," an Islamabad United official was quoted as saying by Geo.TV.

Andre Russell has been a part of KKR since IPL 2014 and was named the Player of the Tournament in IPL 2015. Russell’s hitting abilities and the fact that he can play as a pure bowler gives KKR immense flexibility in their team. Him missing the IPL 2018 will have a big impact on KKR’s scheme of things, as they are already facing the prospect of Chris Lynn missing the tournament due to an injury and the point that they only have 19 players in their squad.

SHAKIB-AL-HASAN (SRH)

Newly appointed captain of the Bangladesh team, all-rounder Shakib-Al-Hasan suffered a major injury to his finger during the tri-series final in Mirpur in January this year. This put him out of contention for the Sri Lanka Tests and the ongoing Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. Shakib suffered a subluxation/joint sprain at the base of the little finger on his left hand.

It has been speculated that Shakib might also miss either a part of the IPL 2018 or the whole tournament. Shakib, who played for KKR in IPL since 2011, was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2018 auction in January for Rs 2 crore.

CHRIS LYNN (KKR)

Chris Lynn and his injury issues can have a whole article of itself. After constantly injuring his shoulders, his hamstrings, and even his testicle at one point; Lynn has become a potentially doubtful player when it comes to completing an assignment.

He recently dislocated his right shoulder in the final of the Trans-Tasman T20 tri-series against New Zealand. Lynn dived to stop a ball and landed awkwardly on his right shoulder and was immediately in pain. "Chris dislocated his right shoulder after landing awkwardly on it when fielding the ball," Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris was quoted by AFP.

This injury made him miss the Pakistan Super League 2018 and has put a question mark over his participation in IPL as well. Reports said if Lynn does not play a match he would receive half his fee. But if he is ruled out before the tournament he will not be paid anything.

RAVINDRA JADEJA (CSK)

Ravindra Jadeja

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was retained by the Chennai Super Kings for the IPL 2018, along with MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. Jadeja has been a part of the IPL franchise since IPL 2012 and then played for Gujarat Lions when CSK was banned for two years.

However, Jadeja might not be available for the tournament for CSK, as he suffered a side strain during the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018, where he played as a batsman. He was named in the Rest of India squad to take on Ranji Champions Vidarbha but was deemed unfit to take part and was replaced by R Ashwin.

Jadeja was a vital member of the MS Dhoni’s CSK setup until 2015 and Dhoni would have liked to have him back into the scheme of things again. But it remains to see if Jadeja becomes fit soon to participate in the IPL 2018.
