K. M. Asif was sold to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL Auction 2018. The Kerala bowler is happy to be signed by the Chennai franchise. He revealed that it was his dream to play under the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Dhoni will be leading CSK in the upcoming season of IPL.

Asif, who was bought for Rs. 40 Lakh at the auction told Sportstar, “It has always been my dream to play under M. S. Dhoni. And CSK is perhaps the most popular team in India,"

At the MRF Pace Foundation currently to hone his skills ahead of the IPL, Asif said, “I owe much to MRF. I came here last year too and it made me technically, physically and mentally ready for the season.”

Asif played his only first-class match against Himachal Pradesh. He picked up three wickets in the match.

Franchises had their eyes on Asif after he went in the trails for Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. The pacer admitted he was not expecting CSK to pick him. “I had gone for trials for Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. And I bowled well there.”

Growing up, his favorite IPL side was not CSK but Delhi Daredevils. “I am a bowler but love Virender Sehwag’s batting. I backed Delhi because he used to play for it.”

Born in Malappuram, a district in Kerala that has a lot of passionate football fans, Asif was crazy for football too. His conversation with a friend, who used to play under-17 cricket made him interested in cricket.

Asif traveled to Dubai for work and played in tennis ball tournaments for money. Finally, he made the breakthrough to the state side.

The cricketer also revealed his favorite Tamil actor. “We all see Tamil movies in Kerala and I am a huge Vikram fan,” he said.
