West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell, who is representing Islamabad United in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. Given the fact that hamstring injury usually takes at least 4 weeks to heal, Russell might have to miss the first few matches of IPL 2018, scheduled to start on April 7.

Russell was the star in Islamabad United’s nerve-wrecking victory in the super-over against Lahore Qalandars on Friday (March 2). The 29-year-old had hit four and six in the last two deliveries of Mustafizur Rahman’s super-over to secure a sensational victory for Islamabad.

It is pertinent to mention here that Russell was one of the two players, who got retained by Kolkata Knight Riders during the IPL retention in January 2018. Russell’s fellow countryman Sunil Narine was the other player to be retained by KKR. The two times IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders will play their first IPL 2018 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 8.

Islamabad United are yet to announce the replacement for swashbuckling Russell. The inaugural PSL champions are currently placed at fourth position in the points table, having won 3 out of their 5 matches in the competition.
