Watch- KXIP mentor Virender Sehwag explains why franchise chose R Ashwin as captain for IPL 2018

R Ashwin was bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2018 auction for INR 7.6 crore.

R Ashwin will lead KXIP in IPL 2018

King XI Punjab cleared their slate and bought many big name players along with a retention from before the auction- Akshar Patel for the IPL 2018.

Players like KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Andre Tye, R Ashwin and Yuvraj Singh will be seen playing for the lion’s den in the upcoming season of IPL. One thing that has plagued the KXIP since first season has been lack of a consistent leader. They have tried many captains, but apart from Adam Gilchrist and George Bailey to some extent, none of the other captains made any significant impact.

Therefore, when the time came for choosing the captain for the upcoming IPL 2018, KXIP owners, along with mentor Virender Sehwag gave a long thought to whom should be the captain of the team. With contenders like Yuvraj Singh and Glenn Maxwell, who have captained the side previously and new faces like KL Rahul, Karun Nair and R Ashwin; Sehwag was spoilt for choices.

On February 26th, Virender Sehwag and KXIP announced that R Ashwin was chosen to lead the team in IPL 2018, via a live Facebook video chat.

Now Kings XI Punjab uploaded a video on their Twitter in which Virender Sehwag explains the reasons why R Ashwin, who is known as a thinking cricketer, was chosen as captain.
