There is plenty of buzz surrounding around the next edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) since it will mark the beginning of the new decade in the lucrative tournament and also for the first time, cricket fans will experience viewing it on Star Sports network.

Moreover, in a novel concept in the history of the showpiece league, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will announce new captains live on TV for the first time on March 4.

During the IPL auction last month, KKR didn’t use Right to Match card to retain the services of veteran Gautam Gambhir, which raised a big question among fans and cricket pundits as to who will ably fill in the captaincy spot.

In his seven-year stint with KKR as a captain, Gambhir had led the team from the front and had played a massive role in winning them the 2012 and 2014 trophy. Furthermore, Gambhir had led the Kolkata-based franchise in 122 IPL matches, with the team grabbing 69 victories besides qualifying for the playoffs thrice - 2011, 2016 and 2017.

Kolkata Knight Riders spent 59 crores to rope in just 17 players, the least by any team in the IPL auction. Prior to the mega-auction, KKR had retained the services of impactful West Indian duo –Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.

Nobody from the KKR camp has officially commented on the topic of captaincy thus far, but head coach Jacques Kallis has hinted that swashbuckling opener Chris Lynn is one of the candidates.

"Yes, he is probably one of the candidates but we haven’t yet decided about it. Maybe, we will get to know in the next couple of weeks," Kallis had told PTI.

The 11th edition of IPL will kick off from April 7, with the defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on the returning franchise Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede stadium.
