With the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) announcing the complete schedule of IPL XI, Australia’s Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell will not be available for their respective franchises — Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Daredevils for their tournament opener.
The tournament opener of the much-awaited 11th edition of the IPL 2018 will be played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 7 April.
The second match of the IPL 2018 will see the encounter between KXIP and DD at the Ferozeshah Kotla on April 8. With Finch tying the knot with partner Amy Griffiths on April 7, it is impossible for him to participate in the game. On the other hand, Maxwell, who is scheduled to attend Finch's wedding on the date, will also miss his team’s tournament opener on 8 April.
According to a report in cricket.com.au, Finch told reporters in Auckland, “I saw the fixture this morning - there's no chance I'll be missing my wedding. That'd be a bit tough leaving Amy at the altar, wouldn't it? The second game we play is on the 13th, that'll give me plenty of time to get over there and miss only one game luckily.”
He further added, “Having one of my good mates 'Hodgey' as coach … he knows about it now. I did wait a bit longer to send him the invite before the auction. It's just a case of missing one game but hopefully playing with Kings over a three-year period, it's not the end of the world.”
Meanwhile, Maxwell told SEN radio program Whateley, “This is an interesting one and I haven’t told anyone this before, not even Punter - we've got Aaron Finch's wedding on April 7.”
He signed off by saying, “They said the IPL was going to start on the April 15th - he thought the dates were set but we found out about three months ago it was going to start on the eighth.”
